Hanney Gardening Club have three garden visits planned for this spring and summer, which members and their guests are invited to join. No transport will be provided for any of the visits but we will try and share cars where possible to help with transport and car parking. Sign up sheets were circulated for these events at our meeting on Feb 5th, and will be again on March 6th, but please email Bill Watkin (billwatkin@hotmail.com) if you would like tickets for any of these and are not able to sign up in person. We will need to collect ticket money in advance of each visit.

Thenford Arboretum and Gardens

Saturday April 27th, 2:30pm Thenford Arboretum and Gardens, Nr Banbury. Cost £10 members, £16 guests. HGC is subsidising members' tickets for this event to reflect the fact that we have one less speaker talk this year, due to the way Bank Holidays fall!

The estate belongs to Lord and Lady Heseltine, and has been developed over the last 50 years into a garden of national importance. The arboretum is spread out over 70 acres, featuring a collection of more than 3000 different trees and shrubs. Extensive herbaceous borders, water gardens, an alpine trough garden, a sculpture garden, a rose garden and a rill can also be enjoyed together with a snowdrop collection featuring over 700 varieties. The medieval fish ponds, their interconnecting canal and the existing lake have been restored and two new ones have been added.

This visit is part of one of the garden's Open Days so other visitors will be present. There is a cafe in one of the Barns (refreshments not included in the price).
